Food was good and view is awesome with the sunset. Our waiter and hostess are super helpful. Wait is not long, you can walk around the cliffs and back within 15 mins and they be ready.

Date: Monday, July 24th, 2023 Time: 11:30am Party of: 2 Meal: Lunch / Brunch Reservations Made: via OpenTable that same day *El Jefe Margarita ($14) *Diet Pepsi ($2.99) *Clam Chowder Cup ($8) *L Molcajete ($36) *Fish Tacos ($18) *Tequila Well ($6) For our final meal before leaving Pismo, the hubby and I decided to check out Ventana Grill. This has been in my bookmarks for quite some time, so finally decided to check it out. It was a slow Monday morning. They sat us in a corner booth by the window. First off, the views are very nice. Service was friendly and attentive. My margarita was spicy, but a little light for me. I added an extra shot. I decided to order the molcajete. I'm not quite sure why I decided to get a large. Maybe it had more variety? It was definitely enough food for just one, maybe even two people. Comes with tortillas, beans, rice, etc, so the hubs helped eat all that. I found it a little too rich with all the cheese, etc, but eating some of it is fine. Finishing the whole thing would have been too much. Glad I finally checked off this spot. Come for the views and enjoy a drink or two with some food on the side. REVIEW #3439

Came here because it was the closest restaurant to where we stayed at Pismo. The view from this restaurant is gorgeous but the service and food was alright, hence the lower rating. When we first arrived at our seats, we noticed that there was a spill and food on the floor that looked like from someone who sat there before us. The waitress didn't even see/acknowledge it and just sat us. It wasn't until my mom brought it up that she addressed it. We ordered the following items: 1) Tortilla (complementary): 10/10 Was pleasantly shocked by how good the tortilla was. The combination of salsa and homemade butter on the tortilla left an interesting taste in my mouth. I really enjoyed having both sweet and savory aspects. Even though there was nothing in my tortilla besides just the sauces, it was really delicious and because the tortillas were warm, the butter melted nicely. 2) Carne Asada Nachos: 7/10 Amazing nachos that came in a huge plate. My only con is the meat to chips ratio- there was way more chips than meat so we ended up just using the salsa to dip the chips. I wish there was more meat in this dish but still filling as they packed it with different condiments on top. 3) Clam Chowder: 6/10 Not gonna lie, this clam chowder tasted SO different compared to other clam chowders I've had. Instead of the typical clam texture, this was super thick and creamy. Unique hence a higher review but probably wouldn't get it again. 4) Quesabirria Tacos: 8/10 So delicious but so filling and oily. The shredded beef was cooked to perfection and the outer cheese surrounding it was yum. I enjoyed the sauce that came with the tacos. Must try dish. 5) Local White Sea Bass: 7/10 Nothing too unusual/out of the ordinary. Fish was cooked good but not completely soft (hard in some areas). The assorted vegetables were simple but delicious and warm. Rice was okay- not a fan of Mexican rice but that's a preference thing. Overall, not bad food but not the best in Pismo. The view definitely makes up for it-- such a good place to take photos of the sunset and get a view of the cliff and ocean. Very calming and relaxing.

My fiancée and I had reservations, and we were greeted and seated by the hostess. The view we had of the Pacific Ocean was amazing! We were able to bird watch and see the waves of the ocean, I would go back for this view! The drinks were delicious. The cocktail I had was the Fresca. If you like your drinks on the sweeter side, this is the one! My fiancée got the Ventana Sunset, he enjoyed it, I'm not a gin fan.. but if you like gin, you will like this drink The Steak & Shrimp Molcajete was fantastic. We ended up sharing this meal between the two of us, and it was more than enough. The steak and the shrimp were nicely seasoned and cooked paired with the salsa and the avocado... chefs kiss! However I only gave this place 4 stars, the service lacked. Our waitress only checked on us at the beginning, when we sat and at the end when we were ready to pay. She wasn't even the one who brought our food out. My water cup was empty, I ended up drinking my fiancées water.. it would have been nice if she rounded to see if we needed anything at least once.

On our way back from viewing wildflowers in Carrizo Plain, we got to Pismo Beach around 4:30 p.m. on a Monday. We checked Yelp for seafood (and didn't anticipate finding much between Pismo and Santa Barbara), and picked Ventana Grill because of the ratings. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there, so we were offered a window-side table overlooking the spectacular coastline below. I had the calamari appetizer. My wife had the Ahi salad, and our friend had the fish and chips. We had a mix of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. The fried food was among the best we'd ever had. The Ahi salad was also very good. Ashley, our server, was excellent. As our meal progressed, the table behind us was occupied by a couple of "Karens" who complained that Ventana's menu had changed for the worse. Ashley graciously handled the complaints, to the satisfaction of the women, while picking up a few more tables and keeping us tended to as well. Ventana Grill's website talks about the "Mexican Inspired" cuisine and decor, and we did get three warm tortillas along with honey butter and salsas right after getting seated. The decor is sort of pan-African, with remnants of the restaurant's previous incarnations (giant stained-glass dragonfly, etc.). Ventana Grill goes right back to the top of our Five Cities list.

Ambiance: The restaurant is located on a hilltop/bluff overlooking the ocean. If you can get a reservation or get there early enough to get a table at the window, consider yourself lucky. Service: We had excellent service from the staff, right from when we got there till we were seated and fed. Food: Starters ----------- They give you freshly made tortillas (there is a woman who is making them in the middle of the restaurant) wrapped in a cloth napkin. You have three salsas provided to you - mild/medium/spicy. There are six tortillas and you rip and dip...so good. I have NEVER seen this done before and was impressed...also so delicious. Mains -------- - Dinner Special (seared Seabass with vegetables and Spanish Rice): I had this and it was absolutely delicious and amazing presentation. - Red Caeser Salad: My wife had this with salmon and it was good according to her. - Kids taco x2: My younger son had this with the rice and beans and it was good. I tasted the rice and beans and it was a tangy unique taste. - Quesabirria Taco: My older son had this and said it was delicious. All in all, we have been asked to go back there again before we head back home.

Ventana Grill has views for days!!! Oh my gosh! The location right on the cliffs provides an ocean view from every table! And the staff are friendly and attentive. Neal was our waiter and he was knowledgeable and got our order right. I started with a cup of the NE clam chowder. See the photo below. It was chunky full of big clams, celery and taters and the creaminess hit all the right notes. We got the seabass catch of the day and the chopper chicken salad. I've got no photos of those cuz we dug into them before I could snap a pic. The salad comes with a cumin dijon dressing which didn't sound good to either of us so we swapped it out for their cilantro basil vinaigrette which I highly recommend. The extensive drink menu looks great but we were there at 11a so it was too early in the workday to imbibe. Next time for sure!
